Along with stories, I have for most of my life, enjoyed writing poetry. Some ok, some bad, some terrible, and once in a long while, a winner. You be the judge, and please leave constructive feed back.

Lonesome Me

I need the wild places
The high lonesome valleys
The hard,  long climbs to heaven
Beneath an untamed sky

I need the empty spaces
Broad and long and barren
Ten thousand years of dust
Windswept, silent, and dry

I need the frozen landscape
White and grey and forlorn
Drifted, crusted snow banks
And bowed down evergreens

I need the deepest forest
Untouched by human footprint
Trees reaching upward
Echoes of things unseen

I long for inner stillness
And peace that lies within
Calmness in my spirit
And stillness in my mind

I am drawn to hidden places
Steeped in solitude
Far from beaten pathways
Civilization far behind
